وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا"

Wassaaaffaati saffaa

I CALL TO witness those who stand arrayed in rows,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 1

"فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا"

Fazzaajiraati zajraa

And those who restrain by reprimanding,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 2

"فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا"

Fattaaliyaati Zikra

And those who recite the Reminder,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 3

"إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ"

Inna Illaahakum la Waahid

Verily your God is One,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 4

"رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ"

Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa Rabbul mashaariq

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, and the Lord of the Easts.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 5

"إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ"

Innaa zaiyannas samaaa 'ad dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib

He decked the nearest heavens with ornaments of stars,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 6

"وَحِفْظًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَارِدٍ"

Wa hifzam min kulli Shaitaanim maarid

Protecting them against every wayward devil,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 7

"لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ"

Laa yassamma 'oona ilal mala il a'alaa wa yuqzafoona min kulli jaanib

So that they are not able to listen to the angels of higher (echelons), and are pelted from all sides

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 8

"دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ"

Duhooranw wa lahum 'azaabunw waasib

And kept far away. There is perpetual punishment for them,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 9

"إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ"

Illaa man khatifal khatfata fa atba'ahoo shihaabun saaqib

Except those who eavesdrop and are pursued by a shooting flame.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 10

"فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمْ مَنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِنْ طِينٍ لَازِبٍ"

Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnaa; innaa khalaqnaahum min teenil laazib

So ask them if they are more difficult to create, or the rest We have created? Indeed (man) We created from fermented clay.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 11

"بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ"

Bal'ajibta wa yaskharoon

Yet while you are filled with wonder, they just scoff;

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 12

"وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ"

Wa izaa zukkiroo laa yazkuroon

And when they are warned they pay no heed.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 13

"وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ"

Wa izaa ra aw Aayatinw yastaskhiroon

When they see a sign, they laugh at it,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 14

"وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُبِينٌ"

Wa qaalooo in haazaa illaa sihrum mubeen

And say: "This is only magic.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 15

"أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ"

A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamab'oosoon

When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, how can we be raised again,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 16

"أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ"

Awa aabaa'unal awwaloon

And our fathers too?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 17

"قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ"

Qul na'am wa antum daakhiroon

You say: "Yes; and you will be lowly made."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 18

"فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ"

Fa innamaa hiya zajra tunw waahidatun fa izaa hum yanzuroon

There will only be a single jerk, and they will gape,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 19

"وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ"

Wa qaaloo yaa wailanaa haazaa Yawmud-Deen

And say: "Ah woe! This is the Day of Reckoning."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 20

"هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ"

Haazaa Yawmul Faslil lazee kuntum bihee tukaziboon (section 1)

"(Yes,) this is the Day of Judgement you had called a lie."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 21

"۞ احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ"

Uhshurul lazeena zalamoo wa azwaajahum wa maa kaanoo ya'budoon

Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 22

"مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ"

Min doonil laahi fahdoohum ilaa siraatil Jaheem

Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 23

"وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ"

Wa qifoohum innahum mas'ooloon

And detain them, for they will be questioned."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 24

"مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ"

Maa lakum laa tanaasaroon

"What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 25

"بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ"

Bal humul Yawma mustaslimoon

They will submit to questioning then,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 26

"وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ"

Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatasaaa'aloon

And some of them will confront the others,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 27

"قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ"

Qaalooo innakum kuntum taatoonanaa 'anil yameen

Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 28

"قَالُوا بَلْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ"

Qaaloo bal lam takoonoo mu'mineen

They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 29

"وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ"

Wa maa kaana lanaa 'alaikum min sultaanim bal kuntum qawman taagheen

We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 30

"فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ"

Fahaqqa 'alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa'iqoon

The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment),

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 31

"فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ"

Fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween

For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 32

"فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ"

Fa innahum Yawma'izin fil'azaabi mushtarikoon

So, they will become partners in punishment.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 33

"إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ"

Innaa kazaalika naf'alu bil mujrimeen

That is how We deal with sinners.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 34

"إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ"

Innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon

They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 35

"وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍ"

Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon

And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 36

"بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

bal jaaa'a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen

Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 37

"إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ"

Innakum lazaaa'iqul 'azaabil aleem

You will indeed taste a painful punishment,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 38

"وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ"

Wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta'maloon

And be rewarded but only for what you had done,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 39

"إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ"

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except the chosen creatures of God,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 40

"أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَعْلُومٌ"

Ulaaa'ika lahum rizqum ma'loom

Whose provision is predetermined --

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 41

"فَوَاكِهُ ۖ وَهُمْ مُكْرَمُونَ"

Fa waakihu wa hum mukramoon

Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 42

"فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ"

Fee jannaatin Na'eem

In gardens of delight,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 43

"عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ"

Alaa sururim mutaqaa bileen

(Sitting) on couches, face to face,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 44

"يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ"

Yutaafu 'alaihim bikaasim mim ma'een

With cups from a flowing stream being passed around,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 45

"بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ"

Baidaaa'a laz zatil lish shaaribeen

Clear, delicious to drink,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 46

"لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُونَ"

Laa feehaa ghawlunw wa laa hum 'anhaa yunzafoon

Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 47

"وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ"

Wa 'indahum qaasiraatut tarfi 'een

And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 48

"كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَكْنُونٌ"

Ka annahunna baidum maknoon

Like sheltered eggs in a nest.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 49

"فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ"

Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa badiny yatasaaa 'aloon

Then one turned to the other in an enquiry.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 50

"قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ"

Qaala qaaa'ilum minhum innee kaana lee qareen

Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 51

"يَقُولُ أَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ"

Yaqoolu a'innnaka laminal musaddiqeen

Who used to say: ?Are you one of those who can testify to the truth?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 52

"أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ"

A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamadeenoon

(Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones??

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 53

"قَالَ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُطَّلِعُونَ"

Qaala hal antum muttali'oon

He said: ?Will you look down??

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 54

"فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ"

Fattala'a fara aahu fee sawaaa'il Jaheem

He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 55

"قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كِدْتَ لَتُرْدِينِ"

Qaala tallaahi in kitta laturdeen

?By God?, he said, ?you had almost ruined me.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 56

"وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ"

Wa law laa ni'matu Rabbee lakuntu minal muhdareen

Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell).

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 57

"أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ"

Afamaa nahnu bimaiyiteen

(Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 58

"إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ"

Illa mawtatanal oola wa maa nahnu bimu'azzabeen

Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 59

"إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ"

Inna haazaa lahuwal fawzul 'azeem

This will indeed be great happiness.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 60

"لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ"

Limisli haaza falya'ma lil 'aamiloon

For this the toilers should strive."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 61

"أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ"

Azaalika khairun nuzulan am shajaratuz Zaqqoom

Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 62

"إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِلظَّالِمِينَ"

Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen

Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 63

"إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ"

Innahaa shajaratun takhruju feee aslil Jaheem

It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 64

"طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ"

Tal'uhaa ka annahoo ru'oosush Shayaateen

Its spathes are like the prickly pear.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 65

"فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ"

Fa innahum la aakiloona minhaa famaali'oona minhal butoon

They will eat and fill their bellies with it,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 66

"ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِنْ حَمِيمٍ"

Summa inna lahum 'alaihaa lashawbam min hameem

Washing it down with boiling water.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 67

"ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ"

Summa inna marji'ahum la ilal Jaheem

Then to Hell they will surely be returned.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 68

"إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءَهُمْ ضَالِّينَ"

Innahum alfaw aabaaa'ahum daaalleen

They had found their fathers astray,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 69

"فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ"

Fahum 'alaa aasaarihim yuhra'oon

Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 70

"وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ"

Wa laqad dalla qablahum aksarul awwaleen

So had many an earlier people gone astray,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 71

"وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ مُنْذِرِينَ"

Wa laqad arsalnaa feehim munzireen

And We had sent admonishers to them.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 72

"فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ"

Fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul munzareen

Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 73

"إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ"

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen (section 2)

Other than the chosen creatures of God.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 74

"وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ"

Wa laqad naadaanaa Noohun falani'mal mujeeboon

Noah had verily called to Us. And how gracious was He who answered (him).

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 75

"وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ"

Wa jajainaahu wa ahlahoo minal karbil 'azeem

We saved him and his family from the great affliction,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 76

"وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ"

Wa ja'alnaa zurriyyatahoo hummul baaqeen

And made his progeny survive,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 77

"وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ"

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And left (his name) for posterity.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 78

"سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ"

Salaamun 'alaa Noohin fil 'aalameen

Peace on Noah among all men.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 79

"إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ"

Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

That is how We reward those who do good.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 80

"إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ"

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

Surely he was among Our faithful creatures.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 81

"ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ"

Summa aghraqnal aakhareen

Afterwards We drowned the others.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 82

"۞ وَإِنَّ مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ"

Wa ina min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem

And Abraham indeed was of his inducement,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 83

"إِذْ جَاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ"

Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem

When he came to his Lord with a heart compliant,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 84

"إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ"

Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon

When he said to his father and his people: "What is this you worship?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 85

"أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ"

A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon

Why do you solicit false gods instead of God?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 86

"فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ"

Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen

What do you imagine the Lord of the worlds to be?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 87

"فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ"

Fanazara nazratan finnujoom

Then he looked up at the stars (they worshipped),

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 88

"فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ"

Faqaala inee saqeem

And said: "I am sick (of what you worship)!"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 89

"فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ"

Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen

But they turned their backs on him and went away.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 90

"فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ"

Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon

Then he turned towards their gods and said: "Why do you not eat (of these offerings)?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 91

"مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُونَ"

Maa lakum laa tantiqoon

What is wrong with you that you do not speak?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 92

"فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ"

Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen

Then he started striking them down with his right hand.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 93

"فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ"

Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon

So the people descended upon him.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 94

"قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ"

Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon

"Why do you worship these you carve yourselves," he asked,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 95

"وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ"

Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon

"When God has created you and what you make?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 96

"قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ"

Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem

"Build a pyre for him and throw him into the raging fire."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 97

"فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ"

Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen

So they contrived a plot against him, but We made them abject.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 98

"وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ"

Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen

And he said: "I am going away to my Lord who will show me the way.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 99

"رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ"

Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen

(And he prayed:) "O Lord, grant me a righteous son."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 100

"فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَلِيمٍ"

Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem

So We gave him the good news of a clement son.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 101

"فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ"

Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa; qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen

When he was old enough to go about with him, he said: "O my son, I dreamt that I was sacrificing you. Consider, what you think?" He replied: "Father, do as you are commanded. If God pleases you will find me firm."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 102

"فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ"

Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen

When they submitted to the will of God, and (Abraham) laid (his son) down prostrate on his temple,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 103

"وَنَادَيْنَاهُ أَنْ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ"

Wa naadainaahu ai yaaaa Ibraheem

We called out: "O Abraham,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 104

"قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّؤْيَا ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ"

Qad saddaqtar ru'yaa; innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

You have fulfilled your dream." Thus do We reward the good.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 105

"إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلَاءُ الْمُبِينُ"

Inna haazaa lahuwal balaaa'ul mubeen

That was indeed a trying test.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 106

"وَفَدَيْنَاهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ"

Wa fadainaahu bizibhin 'azeem

So We ransomed him for a great sacrifice,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 107

"وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ"

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And left (his hallowed memory) for posterity.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 108

"سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ"

Salaamun 'alaaa Ibraaheem

Peace be on Abraham.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 109

"كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ"

Kazaalika najzil muhsineen

That is how We reward those who do good.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 110

"إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ"

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

He is truly among Our faithful creatures.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 111

"وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِإِسْحَاقَ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ"

Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyam minas saaliheen

So We gave him the good news of Isaac, apostle, who is among the righteous.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 112

"وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ إِسْحَاقَ ۚ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٌ"

Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafsihee mubeen (section 3)

And We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants are some who do good, but some who wrong themselves.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 113

"وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ"

Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon

We were indeed gracious to Moses and Aaron,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 114

"وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْ…نَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ"

Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem

And saved them and their people from great distress,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 115

"وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ"

Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen

And helped them, so they were victorious.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 116

"وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَبِينَ"

Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen

We gave them the explicit Book,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 117

"وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ"

Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem

And showed them the straight path,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 118

"وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي الْآخِرِينَ"

Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen

And left (their remembrance) for posterity.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 119

"سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ"

Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon

Peace be on Moses and Aaron.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 120

"إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ"

Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

That is how We reward those who do good.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 121

"إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ"

Innahumaa min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

They are among Our faithful devotees.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 122

"وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen

Verily Elias is one of the apostles.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 123

"إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ"

Iz qaala liqawmiheee alaa tattaqoon

When he said to his people: "Will you not be mindful of God?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 124

"أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ"

Atad'oona Ba'lanw wa tazaroona ahsanal khaaliqeen

Would you call on Baal and leave the best of creators,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 125

"اللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ"

Allaaha Rabbakum wa Rabba aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen

God, your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers?"

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 126

"فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ"

Fakazzaboohu fa inna hum lamuhdaroon

They denied him, and will surely be brought to punishment,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 127

"إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ"

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except the chosen creatures of God.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 128

"وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ"

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And We left his (memory) for posterity.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 129

"سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ إِلْ يَاسِينَ"

Salaamun 'alaaa Ilyaaseen

Peace be on Elias.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 130

"إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ"

Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

That is how We reward those who do good.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 131

"إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ"

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

He is truly among Our faithful devotees.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 132

"وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

Wa inna Lootal laminal mursaleen

Verily Lot was one of the apostles,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 133

"إِذْ نَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ"

Iz najjainaahu wa ahlahooo ajma'een

Wherefore We saved him and his entire family

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 134

"إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ"

Illaa 'ajoozan fil ghaabireen

Except an old woman who was one of those who stayed behind.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 135

"ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ"

Summa dammarnal aakhareen

Then We destroyed the others.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 136

"وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مُصْبِحِينَ"

Wa innakum latamurroona 'alaihim musbiheen

You pass by (their habitations) in the morning

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 137

"وَبِاللَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ"

Wa billail; afalaa ta'qiloon (section 4)

Or at night. Then how is it you do not understand?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 138

"وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

Wa inna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen

Verily Jonah is one of the apostles.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 139

"إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ"

Iz abaqa ilal fulkil mash hoon

When he fled on the laden ship,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 140

"فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُدْحَضِينَ"

Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhadeen

And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard).

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 141

"فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ"

Faltaqamahul hootu wa huwa muleem

Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 142

"فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ"

Falaw laaa annahoo kaana minal musabbiheen

Had he not been one of those who struggled hard,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 143

"لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ"

Lalabisa fee batniheee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon

He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 144

"۞ فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ"

Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem

So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 145

"وَأَنْبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِنْ يَقْطِينٍ"

Wa ambatnaa 'alaihi shajaratam mai yaqteen

And We made a gourd tree grow over him.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 146

"وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ مِائَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ"

Wa arsalnaahu ilaa mi'ati alfin aw yazeedoon

We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 147

"فَآمَنُوا فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ"

Fa aamanoo famatta' naahum ilaa heen

And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 148

"فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُونَ"

Fastaftihim ali Rabbikal banaatu wa lahumul banoon

Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 149

"أَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِنَاثًا وَهُمْ شَاهِدُونَ"

Am khalaqnal malaaa'i kata inaasanw wa hum shaahidoon

Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 150

"أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ"

Alaaa innahum min ifkihim la yaqooloon

Is it not a lie invented by them when they say:

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 151

"وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ"

Waladal laahu wa innahum lakaaziboon

"God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed!

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 152

"أَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَنِينَ"

Astafal banaati 'alal baneen

Does He prefer sons to daughters?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 153

"مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ"

Maa lakum kaifa tahkumoon

What ails you that you judge in such a wise?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 154

"أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ"

Afalaa tazakkaroon

Why do you not reflect?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 155

"أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُبِينٌ"

Am lakum sultaanum mubeen

Or have you received some clear authority?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 156

"فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ"

Faatoo bi Kitaabikum in kuntum saadiqeen

Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 157

"وَجَعَلُوا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ الْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ"

Wa ja'aloo bainahoo wa bainal jinnati nasabaa; wa laqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon

They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 158

"سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ"

Subhaanal laahi 'ammaa yasifoon

God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 159

"إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ"

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except His chosen creatures who do not.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 160

"فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ"

Fa innakum wa maa ta'ubdoon

So neither you nor those you worship

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 161

"مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَاتِنِينَ"

Maaa antum 'alaihi befaaatineen

Can mislead anyone away from Him,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 162

"إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَحِيمِ"

Illaa man huwa saalil jaheem

Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 163

"وَمَا مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقَامٌ مَعْلُومٌ"

Wa maa minnasa illaa lahoo maqaamum ma'loom

"There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.)

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 164

"وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الصَّافُّونَ"

Wa innaa lanah nus saaffoon

"And we are truly those who stand in rows,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 165

"وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْمُسَبِّحُونَ"

Wa innaa lanah nul musabbihoon

And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 166

"وَإِنْ كَانُوا لَيَقُولُونَ"

Wa in kaanoo la yaqooloon

They used to say:

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 167

"لَوْ أَنَّ عِنْدَنَا ذِكْرًا مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ"

Law anna 'indanaa zikram minal awwaleen

If we had the account of earlier people with us,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 168

"لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ"

Lakunna 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

We would have been the chosen creatures of God."

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 169

"فَكَفَرُوا بِهِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ"

Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa ya'lamoon

Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 170

"وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

Wa laqad sabaqat Kalimatunaa li'ibaadinal mursa leen

Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, --

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 171

"إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ الْمَنْصُورُونَ"

Innaa hum lahumul mansooroon

That they would be helped,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 172

"وَإِنَّ جُنْدَنَا لَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ"

Wa inna jundana lahumul ghaaliboon

And that certainly Our armies will be victorious.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 173

"فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ"

Fatawalla 'anhum hatta heen

So you ignore them for a time

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 174

"وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ"

Wa absirhum fasawfa yubsiroon

And wait; they will come to know soon.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 175

"أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ"

Afabi'azaabinaa yasta'jiloon

Do they want to hasten Our punishment?

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 176

"فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ"

Fa izaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaaa'a sabaahul munzareen

When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 177

"وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ"

Wa tawalla 'anhum hattaa heen

So turn away from them for a time

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 178

"وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ"

Wa absir fasawfa yubsiroon

And watch; they will come to know soon.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 179

"سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ"

Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil 'izzati 'amma yasifoon

Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 180

"وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ"

Wa salaamun 'alalmursaleen

So peace be on the messengers,

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 181

"وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ"

Walhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen (section 5)

And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds.

Surah Number : 37 , Ayat Number : 182
