إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ

Izaa waqa'atil waaqi'ah

WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 1

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

Laisa liwaq'atihaa kaazibah

Which is bound to happen undoubtedly --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 2

خَافِضَةٌ رَافِعَةٌ

Khafidatur raafi'ah

Degrading (some) and exalting (others);

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 3

إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا

Izaa rujjatil ardu rajjaa

When the earth is shaken up convulsively,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 4

وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا

Wa bussatil jibaalu bassaa

The mountains bruised and crushed,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 5

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا

Fakaanat habaaa'am mumbassaa

Turned to dust, floating in the air,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 6

وَكُنْتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً

Wa kuntum azwaajan salaasah

You will become three categories:

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 7

فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَة…أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ

Fa as haabul maimanati maaa as haabul maimanah

Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand!

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 8

وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ

Wa as haabul mash'amati maaa as haabul mash'amah

Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand!

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 9

وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ

Wassaabiqoonas saabiqoon

Then the foremost, how pre-excellent,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 10

أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

Ulaaa'ikal muqarraboon

Who will be honoured

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 11

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ

Fee Jannaatin Na'eem

In gardens of tranquility;

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 12

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Sullatum minal awwaleen

A number of the earlier peoples,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 13

وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ

Wa qaleelum minal aa khireen

And a few of later ages,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 14

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ

'Alaa sururim mawdoonah

On couches wrought of gold,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 15

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ

Muttaki'eena 'alaihaa mutaqabileen

Reclining face to face.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 16

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ

Yatoofu 'alaihim wildaa num mukhalladoon

Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 17

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ

Bi akwaabinw wa abaareeq, wa kaasim mim ma'een

Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 18

لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ

Laa yusadda'oona 'anhaa wa laa yunzifoon

Unheady, uninebriating;

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 19

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

Wa faakihatim mimmaa yatakhaiyaroon

And such fruits as they fancy,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 20

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Wa lahmi tairim mimmaa yashtahoon

Bird meats that they relish,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 21

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ

Wa hoorun'een

And companions with big beautiful eyes

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 22

كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ

Ka amsaalil lu'lu'il maknoon

Like pearls within their shells,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 23

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon

As recompense for all they had done.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 24

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا

Laa yasma'oona feehaa laghwanw wa laa taaseemaa

They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 25

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا

Illaa qeelan salaaman salaamaa

Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 26

وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ

Wa as haabul yameeni maaa as haabul Yameen

As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 27

فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ

Fee sidrim makhdood

They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 28

وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ

Wa talhim mandood

And acacia covered with heaps of bloom,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 29

وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ

Wa zillim mamdood

Lengthened shadows,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 30

وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ

Wa maaa'im maskoob

Gushing water,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 31

وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ

Wa faakihatin kaseerah

And fruits numberless,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 32

لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ

Laa maqtoo'atinw wa laa mamnoo'ah

Unending, unforbidden,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 33

وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَةٍ

Wa furushim marfoo'ah

And maidens incomparable.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 34

إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً

Innaaa anshaanaahunna inshaaa'aa

We have formed them in a distinctive fashion,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 35

فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا

Faja'alnaahunna abkaaraa

And made them virginal,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 36

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا

'Uruban atraabaa

Loving companions matched in age,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 37

لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

Li as haabil yameen

For those of the right hand.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 38

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Sullatum minal awwa leen

A crowd of earlier generations

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 39

وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ

Wa sullatum minal aakhireen

And a crowd of the later.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 40

وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ

Wa as haabush shimaali maaa as haabush shimaal

But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 41

فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ

Fee samoominw wa hameem

Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 42

وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ

Wa zillim miny yahmoom

Under the shadow of thick black smoke

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 43

لَا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ

Laa baaridinw wa laa kareem

Neither cool nor agreeable.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 44

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ

Innaahum kaanoo qabla zaalika mutrafeen

They were endowed with good things

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 45

وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ

Wa kaanoo yusirroona 'alal hinsil 'azeem

But persisted in that greater sin,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 46

وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

Wa kaanoo yaqooloona a'izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa izaaman'ainnaa lamab'oosoon

And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 47

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ

Awa aabaaa'unal awwaloon

And so will our fathers?"

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 48

قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ

Qul innal awwaleena wal aakhireen

Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 49

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ

Lamajmoo'oona ilaa meeqaati yawmim ma'loom

Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 50

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ

summa innakum ayyuhad daaalloonal mukazziboon

Then you, the erring and the deniers,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 51

لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّومٍ

La aakiloona min shaja rim min zaqqoom

Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 52

فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ

Famaali'oona minhal butoon

Fill your bellies with it,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 53

فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ

Fashaariboona 'alaihi minal hameem

And drink over it scalding water,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 54

فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ

Fashaariboona shurbal heem

Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease."

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 55

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ

Haazaa nuzuluhum yawmad deen

Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 56

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

Nahnu khalaqnaakum falaw laa tusaddiqoon

It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 57

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ

Afara'aytum maa tumnoon

Just consider (the semen) that you emit,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 58

أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ

'A-antum takhluqoo nahooo am nahnul khaaliqoon

Do you create it, or We are its creator?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 59

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَ…ا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

Nahnu qaddarnaa baina kumul mawta wa maa nahnu bimasbooqeen

We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 60

عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَ…فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

'Alaaa an nubaddila amsaalakum wa nunshi'akum fee maa laa ta'lamoon

From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 61

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Wa laqad 'alimtumun nash atal oolaa falaw laa tazakkaroon

You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 62

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ

Afara'aytum maa tahrusoon

Just ponder over what you sow:

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 63

أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ

'A-antum tazra'oonahooo am nahnuz zaari'ooon

Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 64

لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ

Law nashaaa'u laja'al naahu hutaaman fazaltum tafakkahoon

We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 65

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

Innaa lamughramoon

(And say:) "We have fallen into debt;

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 66

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

Bal nahnu mahroomoon

Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour."

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 67

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ

Afara'aytumul maaa'allazee tashraboon

Consider the water that you drink.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 68

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُونَ

'A-antum anzaltumoohu minal muzni am nahnul munziloon

Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 69

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Law nashaaa'u ja'alnaahu ujaajan falaw laa tashkuroon

We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 70

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ

Afara'aytumun naaral latee tooroon

Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction).

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 71

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِئُونَ

'A-antum anshaatum shajaratahaaa am nahnul munshi'oon

Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 72

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِلْمُقْوِينَ

Nahnu ja'alnaahaa tazkira tanw wa mataa'al lilmuqween

We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 73

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ

Fasabbih bismi Rabbikal 'azeem

So glorify your Lord, the most supreme.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 74

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ

Falaa uqsimu bimaawaa qi'innujoom

So I call the placement of the stars to witness --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 75

وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ

Wa innahoo laqasamul lawta'lamoona'azeem

And this surely is great evidence if you can understand --

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 76

إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ

Innahoo la quraanun kareem

That this is indeed the glorious Qur?an

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 77

فِي كِتَابٍ مَكْنُونٍ

Fee kitaabim maknoon

(Inscribed) in the well-kept Book.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 78

لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ

Laa yamassuhooo illal mutahharoon

Only they can reach it who are clean (of mind).

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 79

تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Tanzeelum mir Rabbil'aalameen

It has been revealed by the Lord of all the worlds.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 80

أَفَبِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ

Afabihaazal hadeesi antum mudhinoon

Then why do you dissimulate this Revelation?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 81

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Wa taj'aloona rizqakum annakum tukazziboon

You live by calling it a lie.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 82

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ

Falaw laaa izaa balaghatil hulqoom

Then how is it that when the (dying) breath is withdrawn into the throat (and rattles),

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 83

وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنْظُرُونَ

Wa antum heena'izin tanzuroon

And you wait for the moment (of death),

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 84

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Wa nahnu aqrabu ilaihi minkum wa laakil laa tubsiroon

We are closer to him than you, even though you cannot see?

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 85

فَلَوْلَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ

Falaw laaa in kuntum ghaira madeeneen

Then why, if you are not indebted (to Us for life),

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 86

تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Tarji'oonahaaa in kuntum saadiqeen

Can you not bring him back? (Answer) if you are truthful

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 87

فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Fa ammaaa in kaana minal muqarrabeen

Then, if he is one of the honoured,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 88

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ

Farawhunw wa raihaa nunw wa jannatu na'eem

There will be peace and plenty, and gardens of tranquility for him.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 89

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

Wa ammaaa in kaana min as haabil yameen

If he is of those of the right hand,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 90

فَسَلَامٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

Fasalaamul laka min as haabil yameen

There will be the salutation by those of the right hand: "Peace on you.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 91

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ

Wa ammaaa in kaana minal mukazzibeenad daaalleen

But if he is of the deniers and the errants,

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 92

فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ

Fanuzulum min hameem

The welcome will be boiling water

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 93

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ

Wa tasliyatu jaheem

And the roasting in Hell.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 94

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ

Inna haaza lahuwa haqqul yaqeen

This is indeed the ultimate truth.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 95

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ

Fasabbih bismi rabbikal 'azeem

Then praise your Lord, the most supreme.

Surah Number : 56 , Ayat Number : 96
