وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا

Wan naazi 'aati gharqa

I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 1

"وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا"

Wan naa shi taati nashta

And those who undo the bonds gently,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 2

"وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا"

Wass saabi-haati sabha

And those who glide swimmingly,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 3

"فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا"

Fass saabi qaati sabqa

Then outpace the others swiftly

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 4

"فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا"

Fal mu dab-bi raati amra

And direct affairs by command,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 5

"يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ"

Yawma tarjufur raajifa

The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 6

"تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ"

Tatba'u har raadifa

Followed by the second blast,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 7

"قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ"

Quloobuny-yau maaiziw-waaji-fa

Hearts will pound loudly on that day,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 8

"أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ"

Absaa ruhaa khashi'ah

Eyes be lowered in submission.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 9

"يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ"

Ya qoo loona a-inna lamar doo doona fil haafirah

They say: "Shall we go back to our original state

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 10

"أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَخِرَةً"

Aizaa kunna 'izaa man-nakhirah

After having turned to carious bones?"

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 11

"قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ"

Qaalu tilka izan karratun khaasirah.

They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss."

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 12

"فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ"

Fa inna ma hiya zajratuw-waahida

It will only be a single blast,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 13

"فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالسَّاهِرَةِ"

Faizaa hum biss saahirah

And they will wake up suddenly.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 14

"هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ"

Hal ataaka hadeethu Musaa

Has the story of Moses come to you

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 15

"إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى"

Iz nadaahu rabbuhu bil waadil-muqad dasi tuwa

When his Lord called to him in Tuwa?s holy vale?

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 16

"اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ"

Izhab ilaa fir'auna innahu taghaa.

"Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 17

"فَقُلْ هَلْ لَكَ إِلَىٰ أَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ"

Faqul hal laka ilaa-an tazakka.

And say: ?Would you like to grow (in virtue)?

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 18

"وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ"

Wa ahdi yaka ila rabbika fatakh sha

Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.?"

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 19

"فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ"

Fa araahul-aayatal kubra.

So he showed him the greater sign;

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 20

"فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ"

Fa kazzaba wa asaa.

But (the Pharaoh) disavowed and disobeyed.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 21

"ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ"

Thumma adbara yas'aa.

Then he turned away, deliberating,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 22

"فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ"

Fa hashara fanada.

And assembled (his council) and proclaimed,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 23

"فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ"

Faqala ana rabbu kumul-a'laa.

Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all."

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 24

"فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ"

Fa-akha zahul laahu nakalal aakhirati wal-oola.

So God seized him for the punishment of the Hereafter and this world.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 25

"إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِمَنْ يَخْشَىٰ"

Inna fee zaalika la'ibratal limaiy-yaksha

Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences).

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 26

"أَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ ۚ بَنَاهَا"

A-antum a shaddu khalqan amis samaa-u banaaha.

Are you more difficult to create or the heavens? He built it,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 27

"رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا"

Raf'a sam kaha fasaw waaha

Raised it high, proportioned it,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 28

"وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا"

Wa aghtasha lailaha wa akhraja duhaaha.

Gave darkness to its night, and brightness to its day;

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 29

"وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا"

Wal arda b'ada zaalika dahaaha.

And afterwards spread out the earth.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 30

"أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا"

Akhraja minha maa-aha wa mar 'aaha.

He brought out its water and its pastures from it,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 31

"وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا"

Wal jibala arsaaha.

And stabilized the mountains

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 32

"مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ"

Mataa'al lakum wali an 'aamikum.

As convenience for you and your cattle.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 33

"فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ"

Fa-izaa jaaa'atit taaam matul kubraa.

When the great calamity comes,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 34

"يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ"

Yauma Yata zakkarul insaanu ma sa'aa.

The day when man remembers all that he had done,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 35

"وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَنْ يَرَىٰ"

Wa burrizatil-jaheemu limany-yaraa.

And Hell made visible to him who can see,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 36

"فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَىٰ"

Fa ammaa man taghaa.

Then he who had been rebellious

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 37

"وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا"

Wa aasaral hayaatad dunyaa

And who preferred the life of the world,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 38

"فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ"

Fa innal jaheema hiyal maawaa.

Will surely have Hell for his abode.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 39

"وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ"

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama Rabbihee wa nahan nafsa 'anil hawaa

But he who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained his self from vain desires,

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 40

"فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ"

Fa innal jannata hiyal maawaa

Will surely have Paradise for abode.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 41

"يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا"

Yas'aloonaka 'anis saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

They ask you: "When will the Hour be? When is its time fixed?"

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 42

"فِيمَ أَنْتَ مِنْ ذِكْرَاهَا"

Feema anta min zikraahaa

What do you have to do with explaining it?

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 43

"إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنْتَهَاهَا"

Ilaa Rabbika muntahaa haa

The extent of its knowledge goes to your Lord.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 44

"إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنْذِرُ مَنْ يَخْشَاهَا"

Innamaaa anta munziru maiy yakshaahaa

Your duty is only to warn him who fears it.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 45

"كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا"

Ka annahum Yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbasooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaahaa

The day they see it, it will seem they had stayed in the world but only an evening or its turning into dawn.

Surah Number : 79 , Ayat Number : 46
