"لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ"

Laaa uqsimu bihaazal balad

I CALL THIS earth to witness --

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 1

"وَأَنْتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ"

Wa anta hillum bihaazal balad

And you are free to live upon it, --

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 2

"وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ"

Wa waalidinw wa maa walad

And the parent and the offspring,

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 3

"لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ"

Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee kabad

That We created man in toil and trouble.

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 4

"أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ"

Ayahsabu al-lai yaqdira 'alaihi ahad

Does he think that no one has power over him?

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 5

"يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُبَدًا"

Yaqoolu ahlaktu maalal lubadaa

He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth."

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 6

"أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ"

Ayahsabu al lam yarahooo ahad

Does he think that no one sees him?

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 7

"أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُ عَيْنَيْنِ"

Alam naj'al lahoo 'aynayn

Did We not give him two eyes,

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 8

"وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ"

Wa lisaananw wa shafatayn

One tongue, and two lips,

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 9

"وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ"

Wa hadaynaahun najdayn

And showed him two highways (of good and evil)?

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 10

"فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ"

Falaq tahamal-'aqabah

But he could not scale the steep ascent.

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 11

"وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ"

Wa maaa adraaka mal'aqabah

How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? --

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 12

"فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ"

Fakku raqabah

To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery),

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 13

"أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ"

Aw it'aamun fee yawmin zee masghabah

Or to feed in times of famine

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 14

"يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ"

Yateeman zaa maqrabah

The orphan near in relationship,

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 15

"أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ"

Aw miskeenan zaa matrabah

Or the poor in distress;

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 16

"ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ"

Summa kaana minal lazeena aamanoo wa tawaasaw bissabri wa tawaasaw bilmarhamah

And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind.

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 17

"أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ"

Ulaaa'ika As-haabul maimanah

They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed).

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 18

"وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ"

Wallazeena kafaroo bi aayaatinaa hum as-haabul Mash'amah

But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand:

Surah Number : 90 , Ayat Number : 19

"عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ"

Alaihim naarum mu'sadah

The Fire will vault them over.
